She's gone color mad!My wheel was calling me, but what fiber should be next up to the plate? I have a modest fiber stash compared to my yarn stash, but it's enough to tug me in several directions. (Including the fabulous new addition of some German roving gifted to me by the fabulous Kate)
Perhaps under the influence of the Noro sock project however, today's winner was the lovely silk blend top that I won in a drawing from Copperpot Woolies. It came in a variety of lovely shades that seemed perfect for some stripy goodness. I've also been wanting to try my hand at Navajo plying.
Here's the first half of the result. I separated each color into half and spun up one of each color in rainbow fashion with the 10:1 ratio. I then navajo plied onto another regular bobbin, this time at 6:1 I thought about pulling out the plying head so I could treadle even slower, but decided I could just park if my twist got too far ahead of me. This ended up working fabulously. By the time I was about 1/4 through the plying I didn't have to stop any more, my hands were keeping up with my feet.
Here's the resulting first half all plied up. I'm really proud of this. I had been prepared for this first navajo attempt to be an utter disaster ;)

And a close up with the obligitory dime for reference

I've already started the second half of the singles.... now I just need to figure out what this wants to be. Maybe something in a mosaic pattern with a dark solid? hmmm.
