Silky Hikers

It seems to me that knitters either love Noro or hate it. It is what it is, a rustic twiggy riot of color. I have always been in the noro loving camp, and I still am, but this pair of socks has severely tested my love.

They are knit with the new sock weight Silk Garden. The yarn is a riot of color and texture. It looks like everything but the kitchen sink was thrown into the carder, wool, raw silk, bits of sari and nylon thread. It's really uneven in weight, with some places dangerously cobweb thin and others worsted thick and barely spun. If you can manage to keep it together what this gives you is a gorgeous tweedy textured yarn that melds into a great cohesive fabric.

The yarn snapped on me multiple times in the toe sections of these babies, which combined with the seven knots, yes SEVEN knots in one ball of yarn, made for a few moments where I wanted to throw the whole thing in the bin. But I suffered through and the resulting socks just make me so happy, smooshy and tweedy with lovely bits of silky shine.
