Madrona Recap, abridged

I had a complete blast at Madrona. I probably spent too much money, but I don’t really regret any of it. ;) My first class was the Lapland Mitten Class, intarsia in the round with 11 bobbins. I had hesitated to sign up for this class but I’m so glad I did. The technique wasn’t nearly as challenging as I’d imagined, and I love having another colorwork tool in the arsenal. :) Susanna is a great teacher and was a wealth of information on the history of the technique.

My other two classes were taken purely for entertainment value rather than to learn new techniques. Stephanie’s (Yarn Harlot) class was really fun. About half of our class had brought in knitting problems, and the rest of us were just along for the ride. My last class was the Kauni hat. I’ve been wanting to try out this yarn for quite a while after seeing it on so many blogs. I’ve totally fallen in love with it. I finished my hat this morning. Ruth Sorenson was a delight. I bought a sweater’s worth of the yarn before class started and was amused to see I was not the only one in class to do so. ;)

Lucy Neatby’s presentation Friday night was great. She showed some amazing works of art. It was totally inspiring. I was tickled that she asked me about my hair color brand and where to get it :)

Saturday’s talk by Judith McCuin on the Bison history and fiber was really moving and informative. I’ve been prattling on about the Bison to my friends all weekend.

I bought a sheep to shoe kit and some other raven series roving from BMFA that’s totally drool worthy, as well as some merino silk roving from another vendor and the Kauni yarn. My last purchase was a gorgeous circular needle case. I also won an ounce of Bison roving as a door prize! I’m sooo excited to try it.

Last but not least I met a ton of Ravelers. I came on my own so it was so great to have made so many new friends.

I finished my Kauni hat this morning.
