I think I've finally settled upon a pattern for Grandma's sweater. I giggled when I saw the pattern name (Grandma's Cardigan) but really, it's just perfect. Classic style, not too fitted or too frumpy, and a pretty but not overly fussy lace pattern. It's by Kathy Zimmerman and is from the Winter 01/02 Interweave Knits. This is from a couple years before I started knitting, but I just acquired it on ebay for the Tweedy Aran Cardigan pattern that's also in the issue.

Finding the appropriate yarn will probably take a fair bit of swatching as the original yarn is a now discontinued Angora blend (GGH Lamour) that is knit at a very different gauge than yarndex has for the ball band. (Darn fuzzy yarns with wide gauge ranges)

Complicating the yarn choice is that I'd really like this sweater to be as easy care as possible. (And oh yes, the winning yarn has to either come in a darkish purple or be dye-able.)

My first thought is a nice dk weight superwash wool, Elann has one that looks promising.

Houston, we have a completed front and Back.

This won't be finished in time to wear for the Northwest Fall Equinox Festival this weekend, but I'm making excellent progress. I'm so happy that I ended up getting row gauge so that I haven't had to make any cable alterations.

I cast on both sleeves sunday morning and just about finished the mock cable ribbing before other activities diverted me.

We had to run around and get all of our errands done in time to head over to Seattle to see Jonathan Coulton at the Triple Door. So. Much. Fun. Had by all. It was a sold out show and this town loves him to death. Paul and Storm opened and were rather magnificent.
